Primary Health Care under the spotlight as National Consultative Health forum meets in JHB

Improving the quality of care, human resources for health and increased efforts to fight HIV and AIDS will come under the spotlight at the meeting of the National Consultative Health Forum (NHCF) to be held in Johannesburg tomorrow, 11 November.

The meeting, to be chaired by health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi will be attended by health MECs, national treasury officials, local government authorities, Board of Healthcare Funders and the Hospital Association of South Africa.

Some of the expected outcomes of the meeting include: 

  • monitoring systems to track progress towards attainment of the targets outlined in the Negotiated Service Delivery Agreement
  • strategies for restoring active community participation in health issues.  

At the same NCHF meeting tomorrow, Minister Motsoaledi will also release the 2009 Report on the National Antenatal Sentine HIV & Syphilis Prevalence Survey in South Africa. The survey helps map the AIDS epidemic and monitor HIV infection trends in the country.

The 2009 survey is the 19th to be conducted in the country.
