President Jacob Zuma will on Thursday, 17 May 2012, rename Kings House Presidential Residence in Durban, after the highly regarded educationist, journalist and first President of the ruling African National Congress, Dr John Langalibalele Dube. Kings will from Thursday become Dr John L Dube House.
The residence is used by both the President and the Deputy President of the Republic.
The renaming follows the President's announcement in his State of the Nation Address on government's drive to celebrate, preserve, restore and promote South Africa's heritage.
Through the Heritage Project, with 28 heritage projects countrywide that pay tribute to heroes and heroines of the anti-apartheid struggle, government seeks to ensure a more representative and inclusive South African history and heritage. This will contribute also to shared values and a common national identity.
