President Jacob Zuma will on Friday, 10 August 2012, hand over more than 200 new houses to the residents of Kanana Park Ext 3 in southern Johannesburg, following his visit to Sweetwaters and Thulamntwana in May and July 2010, where he found the residents living in uninhabitable conditions.
Following the President’s visits, the Gauteng Provincial Government and the City of Johannesburg began developing the Kanana Park housing project, which will incorporate the settlements of Thulamntwana, Sweetwaters, and the two smaller informal settlements of Doornkuil and Bhekaphambili.
A total of 3 101 houses are being built, 1 793 of which are government subsidised housing units, 756 social-rental units, and 552 bonded units.
In addition to building houses the following is also planned for the area: parks, two sports grounds, two primary schools and a high school, a clinic, and commercial and light industrial sites.
The President will be accompanied by:

The visit will culminate in a public meeting where the President will address the community.
