President Jacob Zuma will on Sunday, 24 October 2010, meet the national women’s team Banyana Banyana ahead of the start of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) African Women Championship (AWC) 2010.
The CAF AWC, featuring eight of Africa’s premier women’s national teams, takes place in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality from 31 October 2010 to 14 November 2010, with the two finalists qualifying for the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany.
South Africa is proud to host the tournament so soon after the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. The President will pledge the nation’s support for the women’s team as well as the South African Football Association as they host the tournament.
President Zuma will meet the team at the Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa at 12h30, before the 13h00 kickoff of the match between Banyana Banyana and the Zimbabwean women’s squad.
