President Zuma hosts symposium on ANC Centenary and South African heritage

President Jacob Zuma will today, 30 January 2011, host a High Level Symposium on the African National Congress Centenary on the sidelines of the 16th African Union Assembly of Heads of State Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

The symposium will be attended by African Heads of State and Government as well as former Heads of State, under the theme “The Liberation struggle and Shared Values: Achievements, Lessons and the Future.” 

The symposium will provide an opportunity for the Heads of State and Government to participate in the marking of a critical milestone in the history of South Africa and the continent, as South Africa’s ruling party is the oldest liberation movement in Africa.  

The event will celebrate the shared values of freedom, justice, democracy, good governance and prosperity for the African peoples. It will promote the lessons from the liberation struggles and how these should translate into a better life for all in the continent. 

The special guests who are scheduled to address the symposium include Mr Jean Ping, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Mr Armando Guebuza, the President of the Republic of Namibia, Mr H Pohamba, President of the Republic of Senegal, Mr Abdoulaye Wade, the President of the Republic of Angola, Mr Jose Eduardo dos Santos, Former President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr Kenneth Kaunda as well as messages of appreciation from the President of Zimbabwe, Mr Robert Mugabe and the chairperson of the ANC and former Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, Ms Baleka Mbethe.
