President Zuma delivers a keynote address at the Armed Forces Day in support of Military Veterans

The Commander in Chief, President Jacob Zuma, Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Ms Lindiwe Sisulu and Deputy Minister Thabang Makwetla will spend a day with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and Military Veterans to commemorate National Reconciliation Day at an event dubbed Armed Forces Day, scheduled to take place on Thursday at Thaba Tshwane sports ground, Pretoria.

In support of the Military Veterans the SANDF will parade at a ceremony. The parade includes among other things, parade march onto the Parade Ground, National Salute, 21 Round Gun Salute, Salute Flight, and Fly Past of Aircrafts. This will also form part of the Reconciliation Day which is commemorated on the 16 December 2010.

President Zuma is expected to expand on the recent approved Military Veterans Bill by Cabinet which is aimed at among other things, recognising and honouring veterans and ensuring a seamless transition from active military service to civilian life.

In support of Military Veterans, the Department of Military Veterans under the Ministry of Defence and Military Veterans has obligations to deal with the plight of Military Veterans who sacrificed their very being for the greater good of all.

The ceremony will also be attended by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile, and other dignitaries.
