President Zuma to deliver keynote address at the National Youth Day Commemoration, Soweto

Members of the media are advised that President Jacob Zuma will on 16 June 2011 deliver a keynote address at the National Youth Day Commemoration under the theme, Youth action for economic freedom in our lifetime. The President will be accompanied by Minister in the Presidency responsible for Performance Monitoring and Evaluation as well as Administration Collins Chabane, Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) Executive Chairperson Andile Lungisa.

The Youth Month theme is consistent with government’s commitment of meaningful economic transformation and inclusive growth towards the total eradication of poverty and the declaration of 2011 as the year of job creation.

This year the country commemorates the 35th anniversary of the 1976 uprisings, and Youth Month takes place within the context of the second anniversary of the establishment of the NYDA. The NYDA is aimed at creating and promoting coordination in youth development matters.
