President Jacob Zuma will on Thursday, 7 April 2011, attend a community report back session in Mogalakwena Corporate Social Investment Projects in Mokopane, Limpopo province.
The President visited the area in 2008 and 2009 to listen to the communities’ concerns regarding their participation in mining activities in the area.
A government task team was then set up to work with Anglo Platinum to find lasting solutions to the concerns. Anglo Platinum has since agreed to implement a further broad-based black economic empowerment transaction to that effect.
This development is in line with the provisions contained in the revised Mining Charter that was introduced during the last quarter of 2010.
The transaction will invariably benefit communities which are located in the area next to the mining operations, labour-contributing areas as well as certain poverty nodes.
Details of the visit are as follows:
Date: 7 April 2011
Time: 09h00
Venue: Cornelius Masebe Primary School, Armoede, Mokopane, Mogalakwena Municipality (Off Naboomspruit Toll Gate on N1) Limpopo province
