President Jacob Zuma will on Monday, 17 October 2011, attend the commemoration service of the 25th anniversary of the Samora Machel tragedy Mbuzini, Mpumalanga province.
2011 marks the 25th anniversary of the Samora Machel plane crash. In 1986, the airplane of the then President of Mozambique Samora Machel crashed at Mbuzini, in Mpumalanga, killing 32 people on board including President Machel. The South African government undertook to erect a monument on the wreckage site to honour President Machel and his compatriots.
The commemoration service will take place in both South Africa and Mozambique.
