President Jacob Zuma to attend Southern African Customs Union (SACU) conference

President Jacob Zuma will attend the Southern African Customs Union (SACU) conference and centenary celebrations due to take place on 21 to 22 April 2010, in Windhoek, Namibia.

SACU is one of the oldest customs unions in the world, established in 1910 as a customs union agreement between South Africa and the High Commission Territories of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland. Namibia joined SACU in 1990 after its independence.

The union meets annually with the aim to maintain the free interchange of goods between member countries.

President Zuma will be accompanied by the Minister of Trade and Industry Dr Rob Davies and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Nhlanhla Nene.

The conference will also celebrate the launch of the centenary commemorations, with the theme: "Implementing a common agenda towards regional integration in Southern Africa".

President Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on 22 April 2010.
