President Jacob Zuma to address the South Africa-India business forum

President Jacob Zuma and his Indian counterpart, Her Excellency Pratibha Devisingh Patil will address the South Africa–India Business Forum tomorrow:

Date: 3 May 2012
Venue: South Africa Reserve Bank Conference Centre, 370 Church Street, Pretoria
Time: 16h00

The Minister of Trade and Industry Minister Dr Rob Davies, says the event will mark an essential tool in growing South Africa’s economy and in increasing bilateral trade and investment between South Africa and India. Davies added that the event will also provide an opportunity for the South African and Indian business communities to forge relationships and form business linkages with key players and decision-makers in various sectors.

During the State visit to India in 2010, President Jacob Zuma challenged South African and Indian businesses to raise bilateral trade to $10 billion (R76,2 billion) by 2012. Minister Davies says the figure is attainable.

Bilateral Trade between the two countries in 2011, stood at R53,7 billion, with South Africa exporting goods to the value of R24,4 billion to India and importing goods from India to the value of R29,3 billion.

Davies says that the President’s visit to India was a success as several pacts were signed and the South Africa–India Chief Executives' Forum was re-launched. The forum is co-chaired by Patrice Motsepe, chairman of African Rainbow Minerals and India's Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata.
