President Jacob Zuma to address gathering of national and international prosecutors

President Jacob Zuma will this evening address the Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) gala dinner to be hosted at the Cullinan Hotel, Cape Town.

The first meeting of Heads of Prosecuting Agencies Conference (HOPAC) took place in Sydney, Australia in 1991. The attendance of the first meeting was by invitation which stated: "The aim of the conference is to give Heads of Prosecution Agencies an opportunity to meet and to discuss matters of contemporary significance, general principles and issues of practical importance."

HOPAC was designed to bring Heads of Prosecuting Agencies of Commonwealth jurisdictions together for the purpose of meeting and exchanging different points of view and to discuss operational needs.

HOPAC is held every two years and the last conference was held in Quebec City, Canada where South Africa was nominated as the next host from 10 – 13 November 2009.
