President to attend sod-turning ceremony to launch first State Mining Company

President Jacob Zuma will on 26 February 2011 attend a sod-turning ceremony to launch the state mining company in Vlakfontein, Ogies, Mpumalanga province.

As President Zuma stated in his State of the Nation Address earlier this month government has endorsed the African Exploration, Mining and Finance Corporation (AEMFC) as the State Owned Mining Company (SOMCO) that will undertake the mining of minerals of strategic significance.

The sod-turning ceremony for a coal mine will signify the launch of this undertaking.

Road directions to Vlakfontein:

From Johannesburg:

Take the N12 towards Emalahleni/Witbank, Proceed past the Delmas off ramps and the TOTAL garages. Take the Balmoral/Kendal Off ramp (R545, it's the second off ramp after Total Garages) and turn right towards Balmoral on the R545. The entrance to the project site is a gravel road on the right hand side about 300m from the Off ramp (this will be clearly marked on the day). Follow the direction beacons/indicators on the day to the site

From Pretoria:

Take the N4 towards Emalahleni/Witbank. Proceed past Bronkhorstspruit. Take the Balmoral/Kendal Off ramp (R545, it's the second main off ramp after Bronkhorstspruit) and turn right towards Balmoral on the R545 over the highway. Proceed past Kusile construction site and the Ogies turn off. Proceed until the N12 highway is about 500m ahead (there will be directional signs from here on). The entrance to the project site is a gravel road on the left hand side about 300m from the N12 Off/On ramp (this will be clearly marked on the day).

Follow the direction beacons/indicators on the day to the site. The project site is about 35km from Witbank/Emalahleni, about 10km from Ogies town.
