On Monday, 27 February 2012, Premier Zille and Minister Grant will be at the Gugulethu Square shopping centre to promote parental participation in the upcoming School Governing Body (SGB) elections.
The elections are due to begin on Thursday, 1 March 2012. They are the biggest in the country after local and national government elections. (Around 1.5 million parents are encouraged to get involved.)
The importance of SGBs should not be underestimated.
Strong School Governing Bodies are one of the essential partners in our plan to improve education outcomes in the Western Cape. Therefore, we need to encourage each and every parent to get involved in the election process.
The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is currently running a campaign, promoting this message, this includes radio and print advertisements, billboards and mobile banners.
On Monday, Premier Zille and Minister Grant will be handing out pamphlets informing parents of the importance of these elections and how they can get involved.
