Premier takes Gautrain as paying customer for the first time

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane will take her first trip as a paying customer on the Gautrain from OR Tambo International Airport today.

Thereafter she will engage with the media during a press conference which will provide information on the Gautrain's first day of commercial operations.

Details are as follows:

Date: 8 June 2010
Time: 15h15
Venue: Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel, junction room (corner West and Rivonia, right across the road from the Gautrain Sandton station)

Please note:

There will be no formal site access for the media on 8 June. It will be fine for you to access the system. The first train leaves Sandton at 05h24.

However, just be aware that commercial operations commenced today, so all passengers will be paying for the service. There will be no free passes to the media.

Any filming or interviewing should however not be to the disruption of other passengers and should be in accordance with operational rules.

Once the media arrives at the airport (should media be using the airport service), members of the media would need to ensure that they get off the trains and through the fare gates within 15 minutes and pay for the service back to Sandton, or else they would be charged for the duration spent on the trains (you can upload the value for a return trip when you start your journey).
