Premier Mokonyane sustains the spirit of Mandela Day

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane will tomorrow, 25 August 2009 visit Johannesburg Central Police Station and Umtholo Primary School at Zonkizizwe in Ekurhuleni to assess progress in refurbishing of the two institutions since the Mandela Day on 18 July.

Both the Johannesburg Central Police Station and Umtholo Primary formed part of the Premier's initial Mandela Day programme. Due to a tight programme on the day, Premier Mokonyane was unable to make a meaningful contribution at these two institutions and tomorrow's visit will afford the Premier the opportunity to do her bit, by, amongst other things, painting the walls in the two institutions.

Mandela Day celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world and the ability to make a difference.

The programme is as follows:

Date: 25 August 2009
Time: 10h00
Activities: In addition to taking part in refurbishing the police station, Premier Mokonyane will officially open the Victim Empowerment Centre. She will be joined by, amongst others, MEC for Community Safety MEC Khabisi Mosunkutu and Kaya FM CEO Greg Maloka.

Time: 12h30
Activities: Premier Mokonyane is expected to do some painting work and gardening at Umtholo Primary School, Zonkizizwe. She will be joined by MEC for Education Barbara Creecy and Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Ntombi Mekgwe.
