Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane will tomorrow, 19 August 201, deliver the keynote address at an event to promote the rights of lesbians and no violence against women. Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities Lulu Xingwana will also be at the event as a guest speaker.
Among some of the activities planned for the event are a march led by the Ekurhuleni Pride Organising Committee to table a petition on the handling of the case of murdered Noxolo Nogwaza and other lesbians who have fallen victim to corrective rape and other abuses. There will also be a prayer service and awareness campaign on gender-based violence.
Families of those who have fallen victim to crimes related to gender-based violence, including the murdered Nogwaza and Eudy Simelane, will be present to share their painful experience with delegates.
