Premier Mokonyane, MECs to visit schools to ensure smooth start

Members of the Gauteng Provincial Government will on Wednesday, 18 January 2012 visit a number of public schools across the province to witness the official opening of the first term of schooling and to ensure that teaching starts immediately.

Premier Nomvula Mokonyane and her team of MECs will also meet with School Governing Bodies (SGB) at respective schools. Communities will also get a chance to engage the provincial government on the challenges facing schooling in their area.

Through these visits, the provincial government aims to:

  • conscientise citizens about the importance of education;
  • mobilise communities to provide support to schools, teachers and learners; and
  • improve the quality of education for all children, youth and adults, especially the poor.

Premier Mokonyane, accompanied by MEC for Education Barbara Creecy will visit Itirele Zenzele Secondary in Diepsloot and two other schools in Cosmo City. In addition, each MEC will visit three schools in different parts covering all fifteen districts of the province.

All visits start at 07h00.
