Premier Mokonyane to join Deputy President Motlanthe in assessing school readiness for Gauteng schools

Lawley Secondary School, south of Johannesburg, will tomorrow morning transform into a hive of activity as the Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe and Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane embark on a visit to assess the readiness of the school for the 2011 academic year.

Premier Mokonyane, accompanied by the Education MEC, Barbara Creecy, will then move to Eqinisweni Secondary School. The two members of the Gauteng Executive Council (Exco) will then make a stop at the Isekelo Primary School where they will continue inspecting the schools for readiness to begin teaching and learning for the academic year ahead.

The visits will be followed by a meeting with the School Governing Body at the Tembisa Council Chamber. Subsequently, the Gauteng Premier and MEC Creecy will meet with the Tembisa community at the Tembisa Multipurpose Community Hall to discuss education-related matters.

Programme will be as follows:

  • 06h45: Lawley Secondary School programme begins
  • 09h30: Eqinisweni Secondary School programme starts
  • 10h30: Programme at Isekelo Primary begins
  • 14h00: SGB Meeting begins at Tembisa Council Chamber
  • 17h00: Public Meeting programme begins at the Tembisa Multipurpose Hall

Please note that MEC Creecy will address both the School Governing Body (SGB) meeting and the Public meeting.
