Premier Modiselle delivers State of the Province Address

North West Premier, Maureen Modiselle, will deliver her maiden State of the Province Address on Friday, 12 June 2009 in the North West Provincial Legislature in Mafikeng.

Modiselle will deliver her speech against the background of the prevailing economic meltdown. It is anticipated that the Premier will address this critical challenge and its possible impact on government’s programme of action and what government can do to cushion those who may be adversely affected by the current economic challenges.

The Premier’s address will seek to articulate government’s programme of action which will be aligned to the national programme of action. The recent EXCO Lekgotla which was held in Orkney identified key issues for the programme of action. In many ways, Premier Modiselle’s speech will seek to translate the electoral mandate of the ruling party into an implementable programme of action for the provincial government.

Accordingly, among other things, the speech is likely to focus on the following key priorities: Education, Health, Rural development, the fight against crime and corruption, as well as the creation of decent work and sustainable livelihoods.

Premier Modiselle is expected to call for improved co-ordination, integration and synergy in policy implementation and service delivery amongst all spheres which is seen as critical to improved performance.

Building on the solid foundation of the past fifteen years, Molewa’s administration is determined to explore better ways of ensuring faster and more effective implementation of the priorities that have been identified.
