Premier Magashule commemorates Child Protection Week as part of Operation Hlasela programme

The Free State Executive Council led by Premier E S Magashule will launch Operation Hlasela in Diatalawa and Bluegumbush. The launch will also incorporate the commemoration of Child Protection Week and Africa Day.

Child Protection Week is an awareness campaign that reminds all citizens that protecting children is everyone’s business. The event will take place at Leratong Children’s Home and is themed: “Caring communities protect their children”.

In relation to Operation Hlasela, Premier Magashule and MECs will visit Operation Hlasela projects which were launched last year in Diatalawa. These include the building of a school, crèche and vegetable tunnels.

Again, Premier Magashule and MEC’s will visit the cattle project where the national Department of Rural Development committed cattle towards the scheme as part of the revitalisation of rural areas project. At the same time the Premier will make a follow-up on Bluegumbush’s main issue of the provision of electricity in the area and also do a handover of road and sewerage networks.

The visit will also provide Premier Magashule and MECs with an opportunity to interact directly with members of the community in the areas of Diatalawa and Bluegumbush. A mass meeting will be held in the area as well where Premier Magashule will unveil other projects of the Free State Provincial Government to improve the living conditions of the people of Qwaqwa and Bluegumbush respectively.

The allocated funds will be spent amongst others, on the following projects:

Qwaqwa

* Assistance of farmers with dry bean production with cooperation from Olam
* Implementation of mentorship programme for small, medium and micro-enterprise (SMMEs)
* Unblocking of 100 PHPs, two Integrated Residential Development Programme (IRDPs), revitalisation of 1000 VIP toilets and 12 769 social and economic amenities
* Assistance in the following projects: Iketeng Sewing Project, YOFCA, Imbokodo and facilitating of the World Fellowship Community Trading
* The upgrading of the following projects: restaurant, conference facility and special library services for visually handicapped
* Allocation of four new ambulances, launching of completed sections of Elizabeth Ross and the appointment of SCM-chief administrative clerk
* Assistance in the Castleview piggery
* Provision of 20 IT learnerships and 15 wholesale and retail learnerships
* Fixing of storm drainage in Mojatsohle School, Monontsha
* Upgrading the special school in Thiboloha
* Provision of new fencing Sekgutlong, Qibi and Justice Lefuma
* Building of new toilet blocks for learners at Makwane Int, Mosiouwa Lekota, Qholaqhoe, Lerato Primary School, Mantsubisse, Naka Primary School and Lesaoana
* Building of new toilet blocks for educators Lesaona
* NSNP Kitchens in Justice Lefuma, Mohale, ZR Mahabane and Tshepano
* Building of ECD Classrooms at ZR Mahabane
* Electrical repairs and upgrading of Thokwana Makoata, Makabelane and Tshibollo schools
* Provision of full service at Letlotlo farm school
* Hostel upgrading at Mathatisi, Seotlong and Tseki
* Hosting a “Letsema” project inNthabiseng, Tlhorong and Molapo
* Minor and majoro repairs at Mohale, Seotlong, Bolikela, Reahola, Kgoledi ya Manaka, Boitelo and Lerato
* Allocation of 192 bursaries for learners in Phuthaditjhaba

Harrismith

* Provision of FLISP 100, 155 unblocked PHP in Tsiame, 226 restitution cases, 1 IRDP in Schoenplatz; 300 2 roomed, 100 houses in Rooisteen
* Allocation of two new ambulances, appointment of senior medical officer and the announcement on the completion of the hospital
* Building of additional classrooms in Impucuko
* Providing mobile classrooms in Bethlehem, Loch Lomond
* Erecting of new fencing at Glenash, Loch Lomond
* Building of new toilet blocks in Ntsu Primary School, Tiisetsang
* VIP sanitation in Dankbaarheid, Reaboka and Thabo
* Water connection in Daljosefat
* Allocation of 24 bursaries.

Background on Operation Hlasela

Operation Hlasela is a bold initiative by the Free State Provincial Government that focuses on accelerating service delivery, creating jobs, and improving the living conditions of the people of Free State. It was launched by Premier Magashule officially in August last year.

Premier Magashule’s visit to Qwaqwa and Harrismith is fourth of such visits to communities during this financial year. Yesterday, 22 May 2010, the Free State Executive Council visited Kutlwanong, Odendaalsrus as part of Operation Hlasela Campaign.

During the 2010/11 financial year, Operation Hlasela Campaign will be rolled out to 23 different localities in all five district municipalities.

Other areas which stand to benefit from Operation Hlasela Campaign include amongst others: Kroonstad, Parys, Sasolburg, Frankfort, Botshabelo, Bloemfontein, Ladybrand, Trompsburg, Jagersfontein, Welkom, Virginia and Ficksburg.

Operation Hlasela is a direct attack on poverty and underdevelopment. The Free State Provincial Government works very closely with the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and the Department of Home Affairs to ensure that indigent households are immediately assisted with social grants and other social relief.
