Premier Kiviet to open multi million rand building

Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet will on Friday, 5 March 2010 officially open a multi million rand new building that has been built for the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders. Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Mr Sicelo Shiceka will also attend the event.

The new building, the first of its kind to be built by the government in the entire country is the recognition of the contribution that traditional leaders have made towards the emancipation of the people. But most importantly as custodians of culture, custom and tradition they now have a place they can call their own. Since 1996 the House of Traditional Leaders has been in and out of government buildings without a permanent structure of their own and this has made their work very difficult at times. The new building cost R80 million and was built by Transtruct. The double store building boots a chamber where traditional leaders will hold their seating’s, high tech communication networks, committee rooms and offices for support staff.

Five thousand people are expected to attend the event and these include communities from the 14 constituencies of traditional leaders, kings, members of the national house, MPLs , MPs, national ministers, MECs and the Eastern community in general.

Details of the event:

Note: Members of the media are urged to get their accreditation cards at the Office of the Premier building at 08h00 on Friday, 5 March 2010 as no one will be allowed to enter the venue without accreditation.
