Premier Kiviet leads Executive Council (EXCO) outreach

All members of the media are invited to join Eastern Cape Premier Ms Noxolo Kiviet and Members of the Executive Council (MECs) as they embark on an outreach in the OR Tambo District Municipality from 27 to 28 September 2011.

The outreach will be characterised by the Premier, MECs, Executive Mayors and Mayors meeting the communities at all local municipalities to listen to their concerns with the aim of solving challenges around service delivery.

The community engagement session will be on Wednesday, 28 September 2011 and will be preceded by visits to service delivery projects that will include road construction at Mpophomeni village at Port St Johns, Agricultural project at Tshisane village in Tsolo and a nursery in Mthatha.

The R27 million road construction project at Mpophomeni village is an access road that will link several villages, which is aimed at reducing travelling difficulties in the area.

The road leads to Bambisana Hospital after many complaints that other people die before they get help from hospital because of inaccessible roads. The bridges and walkways to the hospital will be created across the road.

The Tshisane Agricultural Community Project is aimed at alleviating poverty as four surrounding villages benefit from the project. These villages are Tshisane, Cingo, Sidwadeni and Gwadi. The communities are already selling harvested potatoes to the local market. The project employed 162 local people.
