Meanwhile as part of the activities to commemorate International Day for People with Disabilities, a three year old Kealeboga Bagatsu will receive a gift of hearing at Steve Biko Pretoria Academic Hospital. Young Kealeboga has received a cochlear implant device and tomorrow it will be switched on introducing him to sound.

The cochlear implant is surgically placed in the inner ear and activated by a device worn outside the ear. This device can restore partial hearing even to the profound deaf. Unlike a hearing aid, it does not make sound louder instead it bypasses damaged parts in the auditory system and directly stimulates the nerve of hearing, allowing individuals to receive sound.
