The Premier of Limpopo, Mr Cassel Mathale will host the European Union (EU) heads of mission delegation in the province on a three-day visit from 22 to 25 November 2009.
The visit follows a courtesy visit by Mr Peter Teljer, the Ambassador of Sweden (in his capacity as head of delegation) to Premier Cassel Mathale last week.
Amongst others, the purpose of the delegation’s visit to the province is to review the donor funding agreements that the Limpopo Provincial Government has signed with European Union since 2004 until May this year. Consideration will also be given to new projects that require funding in line with the new mandate of government that focuses on priorities such as rural development, education, health, job creation, and the fight against poverty and crime.
Spin-offs emanating from the previous agreements indicate that Limpopo has benefited by almost R350 million in European Union donor funded projects. During their stay in the province, the European delegation will visit some of the projects such as:
* Silicon Smelter Limited as Beyersnek Road, Witkop, Polokwane.
* University of Limpopo at Mankweng, Turfloop, Polokwane.
* Agrivet Avo and Passion Fruit project at Soekmekaar
* Vukani, Limpopo jewellery cluster, Polokwane.
* sanitation site at Ga-Sekgopo
* Limpopo Economic development, Mafakeng community based tourism
* information communication technology training institute and community centre, I-Community project.
