Premier’s Inter-Governmental Forum

Tomorrow on Friday, 22 July 2011, the Limpopo provincial government will host its first Premier’s Inter-Governmental Forum (P-IGR) subsequent to the recent Local Government Election. This P-IGR comes at a time when the whole world has just observed the current year International Mandela Day on 18 July 2011. This occasion is scheduled to be held at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane at 8h00.

The P-IGR is a high level government meeting and is scheduled to be attended by Premier Cassel Mathale, Members of the Executive Council (MECs), Executive and Local Mayors, the Director-General of the Limpopo provincial government, Ms Rachel Molepo-Modipa and Heads of Departments of the entire provincial administration, Municipal Managers of all the district and local municipalities and other senior government officials.

The meeting is designed to discuss and assess the overall performance of the government, with particular emphasis on performance monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of the key government priorities that include Education, Health, the creation of decent work and sustainable livelihoods, rural development and the fight against crime and corruption.

The P-IGR will also create a platform to address issues that include, but are not limited to:

  • the state of service delivery in district municipalities
  • the 2009/10 Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA) audit outcomes from the national Auditor General
  • the outcome of the 2011 local government elections
  • post local government elections processes in relation to Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) and budgets and
  • progress made by the state-owned institutions in relation to the implementation of flagship projects in the provincial growth points.

The Provincial Treasury will present the state of finances and progress made in relation to previous resolutions in assisting municipalities on improving financial management.

Other institutions that will attend this occasion include the provincial leadership of the South African Local Government Association (Salga), the provincial House of Traditional leadership, Home affairs, as well as officials from Eskom and Department of Water Affairs and Forestry.
