Gauteng Health and Social Development MEC Ntombi Mekgwe will tomorrow afternoon attend a memorial service for the nine-year-old boy who passed on when a tornado hit in Duduza on Sunday night.
There will also be a prayer meeting for all the victims of the tornado at the scene of the disaster tomorrow afternoon.
Since this unfortunate incident, different government departments have provided assistance to the affected residents.
So far, mobile clinics, an incident command unit and doctors are deployed on site to ensure the welfare of the affected residents.
To prepare for the re-opening of schools next week, learners are being registered to determine how many of them would need uniforms, stationeries and shoes. So far 238 learners have been registered.
In addition, 100 temporary structures have been erected to accommodate displaced victims of the tornado. In addition, 50 temporal structures will be erected each day from now on until all families are accommodated.
Chemical toilets for the destitute victims are being distributed and Home Affairs Department is currently on site to assist with critical documents like IDs, Birth Certificates, Marriage and other related documents for free. There are three mobile units which enable the quick processing of documents while the client is waiting.
The work to restore power supply began on Monday following the collapse of the electricity infrastructure, including the removal of fallen high mast lighting and street poles.
The government is appealing for more aid from good Samaritans to assist with usable donations of blankets, bedding (sheets, towels, pillow cases, and bed covers), clothing, toiletry, non perishable food and stationery for school kids.
