Portfolio Committee on Transport in fact finding mission to Mpumalanga

In line with Parliament’s oversight role, the Portfolio Committee on Transport will undertake a three day visit to Mpumalanga following the tragic accident between a goods train and a truck transporting farm workers in the area. The purpose of the visit is to offer condolences to the families of those who died and also to gather facts on the cause of the accident to enable the committee to properly engage relevant stakeholders with the aim of ensuring that this kind of tragedy never happens again. 

The Committee will first attend the memorial service in honour of the departed then proceed to visit the injured in hospital to wish them a speedy recovery and to assure them of Parliament’s commitment in holding government to account to provide safe roads for every South African. The committee will also visit the site of the accident.
