The Economic Development Department has launched a series of policy platforms to stimulate fresh thinking on South Africa’s economic development challenges. Where possible, we seek to do so in partnership with other parts of government in order to promote coordinated governance. We will draw on external expertise to scene-set and engage with policy-makers.
The next policy platform will be addressed by Professor Haroon Bhorat, Director of the Development Policy Research Unit in the University of Cape Town, who will unveil the results of research on income inequality in South Africa. There will be an opportunity to discuss possible responses to the challenge of inequality. We are also fortunate to have Mr Moazam Mahmood in South Africa at the moment. Mr Mahmood is a Senior Technical Specialist from the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and has been involved across the world in decent work initiatives.
It is therefore our pleasure to invite you to a policy platform on 8 October 2009 at 14h00 in E249, New Wing, Parliament. This will be preceded by a finger lunch, which will be served from 13h30.
