Police Ministry to release crime statistics on 8 September 2011

The Ministry of Police will release South Africa’s annual crime statistics this coming Thursday.

The announcement will be made by the Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa and will take place on Thursday, 8 September 2010 at 10h30 for 11h00 at Sheraton Hotel, Pretoria.

The crime statistics will cover the 2010/11 financial year;, that is, from 1 April 2010 to 31 March 2011. Government releases these statistics once a year primarily to provide the public with an indication of the crime situation in the country.  It further needs to be noted that these statistics are not merely to quantify and create debate in society, but importantly used daily as a management tool to guide operational plans for the South African Police Service.

The Minister will be joined by Deputy Minister of Police, Ms Maggie Sotyu and National Commissioner of Police, General Bheki Cele.  They will be joined by senior management, provincial commissioners, various MECs for Safety, representatives from Business Against Crime, community police forums (CPFs) and various other stakeholders involved in the fight against crime.
