The proliferation and use of the drug concoction, Nyaope, among youth was raised as a contributor towards high levels of crime in Mmakau during Minister of Police, Nathi Mthethwa’s public participation outreach campaign, held in Mmakau near Brits in the North West Province on Tuesday.
In responding to pleas for random stop and searches to be conducted by police to reduce house breaking, purportedly conducted by addicts to feed their craving, Minister Mthethwa called on communities to partner with police to ensure that kingpins behind the drug syndicate operating in the Brits/Mmakau cluster in the North West Province are pursued relentlessly and put behind bars.
Mthethwa said that drug concoctions like Nyaope prevalent around Ga-Rankuwa, Soshanguve areas, tick in the Western Cape and Wunga in KwaZulu-Natal are killing youth who are our future.
In responding to sweeping allegations that law enforcement officers were receiving bribes from members of the community, North West MEC for Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison, Ms Desbo Mohono, called upon motorists not to give traffic officers “cold drink” on the road.
MEC Mohono said that such conduct amounts to bribery “tjotjo” that should be rooted out from the ranks of traffic officers and police.
In response to allegations that some low cost houses in Letlhabile were poorly build, Mohono said that her department will be taking action to blacklist contractors who did shoddy work across all spheres of government.
The Imbizo was attended by close to 2 000 community members from communities in within and beyond the jurisdiction of Madibeng Local Municipality.
