Plight of farm workers on the spot light

The plight of farm workers and dwellers will be on the spot light when various stakeholders in agricultural sector converge under the theme: “Towards a better life for vulnerable worker”. The two day Farm Workers Summit will be held on 6 and 7 May 2010, at Mayibuye Centre in Galeshewe.

The aim of the summit is to work together with the farming community to improve living conditions of farm workers and dwellers, including the provision of basic services. The summit will further seek to assess the progress made since 2008 Farm Workers Summit. All role players at the summit will be engaged in discussions seeking to recommend intervention measures aimed at improving the quality of life of farm workers and farm dwellers. The provincial summit will pave a way towards the National Farm Workers Summit to be convened towards the end May 2010 in the Western Cape.

The MEC for Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development in the Northern Cape Norman Shushu will officiate at the summit.
