Parliament joins the world in commemorating 16 Days of Activism of No Violence against Women and Children

Parliament will tomorrow, 25 November 2009 join the world in launching the 16 Days of Activism of No Violence against Women and Children.

Women from civil society organisations will join Parliament for the launch aimed at strengthening Parliament's efforts of advancing achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), especially those transforming the lives of women.

The 16 Days of Activism Campaign is an annual United Nations Women's Fund-driven global campaign taking place from 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

The global campaign focuses on violence against women only but South Africa has added children to its campaign because of the high incidence of child abuse in the country. In addition, the campaign promotes women's and children's rights as integral to human rights which are enshrined in the Constitution.
