Parliament commemorates Youth Month

Youth from political parties represented in Parliament, the Congress of South African Students, the South African Students Congress and the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) will be joining Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Nomaindia Mfeketo to launch Parliament’s month-long activities to mark June 16.

Activities to mark Youth Month include:

  • A joint sitting of the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces (NCOP) on Wednesday, 8 June to debate the theme of “a caring Parliament that advances youth development to achieve economic freedom”. Youth from a number of institutions will attend the debate.
  • A half-day visit by Members of Parliament (MPs) to the Western Cape Rehabilitation Centre in Faure.
  • A half-day visit by MPs to Johannesburg Prison to talk to and interact with youth in prisons.
