Parliament celebrates Africa Day

Parliament will tomorrow and Wednesday host an Africa Dialogue, and a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces to celebrate Africa Day.

On 25 May in 1963, African people through their States created the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which was later renamed the African Union in July 2002.

Africa Day symbolizes Africa’s unity, commitment to peace, democracy and economic development. Parliament will celebrate the continent’s achievements and look at challenges that include poverty and underdevelopment.

The Africa Dialogue, themed African renewal, advancement and development”, will comprise two panel discussions on: Democratisation and political renewal in Africa and Rethinking African Development and climate change.

And Joint Sitting will be held as follows:

Date:   25 May 2011 March 2007
Venue:   National Assembly Chamber, Parliament
Time:   15h00
