Mineral Resources Committee to assess mine and meet traditional leaders in Mthatha

The Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources will today embark on a two-day oversight visit to Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

The Committee, led by its Chairperson Mr Sahlulele Luzipo, will be in the region to assess the situation at Ikhwezi Quarries, visit an office tasked with helping former miners and hold a meeting with traditional leaders to discuss matters pertaining to mining.

Details are as follows:
1. Date: 5 February
Time: 10am - 12:30 pm
Venue: One Stop Shop (an office tasked with helping former miners), Nelson Mandela Academy Hospital (Mthatha)
Purpose: To establish if the One Stop Shop is serving its purpose and see if there is a need for another one

Date: 5 February
Time: 4pm - 7:30pm
Venue: Number 1 Eagle Street, Mthatha
Purpose: To discuss issues relating to the operation of the Ikhwezi Quarries and community development

2. Date: 6 February
Time: 10am - 1pm
Venue: Town Hall, Mthatha
Purpose: Meeting with traditional leaders to discuss issues related to mining
