The Parliamentary Sport Council in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture in the Eastern Cape will tomorrow, hand over soccer kit, trophies, and medals to two needy schools, Dininkosi Junior Secondary school and Nxego Mtirara Junior Secondary school in the Eastern Cape.
Members of Parliament, Members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, Mayors of the nearby municipalities, Local government and Traditional Affairs MEC Qhoboshiyane Nyandeni, King Ndlovu Yezwe Ndamase and other dignitaries will attend the ceremony.
Led by Parliament’s Chairperson of the Sport Council Dr Zukile Luyenge, the Sport Council plans to roll out this initiative in other provinces.
“We are doing this in pursuance of our public participation mandate. We are also heeding President Jacob Zuma and Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi who have called for us to adopt a healthy life style,” said Dr Luyenge.
Also on Saturday, the two schools, Dininkosi Junior Secondary School and Nxego Mtirara Junior Secondary School will play soccer, netball and volleyball matches.
Leading soccer legends will also play an exhibition game.
