Open day to help government home builders and home owners in Eastern Cape

The department is hosting an open day session with the National Home Builders Registration Council (NHBRC) to launch a variety of products targeting government home builders and housing consumers against defined structural failures of a home and a regulatory services in the home building industry.

The event will be held at Abbotsford Christian Centre in East London where MEC Nombulelo Mabandla and NHBRC Chief Executive Officer Sipho Mashinini will be interacting with hundreds of beneficiaries and housing contractors during the open day on building quality issues and standards to uphold when building houses.

This launch is part of ongoing efforts and interventions to improve quality of houses in the province and early interventions to avoid rectification of government built homes in the future.

Currently, the province is rectifying nearly 20 000 defective homes due to poor quality work of contractors. NHBRC has finalised its new customer centric business strategy and will be launching new products for its customers aimed to assist home owners and capacitate government home builders on building quality issues.

These products include inspectorate function focusing on the subsidy sector, a service charter, home builder manual and code of conduct for contractors.

The National Home Builders Registration Council is a statutory body with the responsibility to provide protection to the housing consumers against defined structural failures of a home and regulatory services in the home building industry.

It has been appointed by the department to oversee rectification of defective 5 145 defective houses in Chris Hani, Joe Ggabi and Buffalo City municipalities.
