The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) invites members of the media to the official certification of the Lammangata Moringa products by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
The Lammanga Moringa project is a community-based agricultural project initiated by Ms Mavis Mathabatha. Last year, she was named National Female Entrepreneur of the Year by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
The day will also include the release of a study into the nutritional benefits of the Moringa Oleifera tree by the University of the Witwatersrand. The leaves of this “wonder tree” are said to be filled with nutrients far more than the vitamin and mineral contents in carrots, spinach, bananas and oranges combined.
To date, the Lammanga Moringa project has already distributed 6 000 free seedlings to rural communities and child-care projects in the province and also exported to Botswana and Namibia.
