Higher Education and Training Minister Dr Blade Nzimande will deliver the keynote address at the Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of South Africa (SEIFSA) Annual Conference in Johannesburg.
The metal and engineering industry is a key player in the national economy and has faced numerous challenges in recent years. According to SEIFSA, the past year in particular has been very difficult as the sector shed 75 000 jobs and significant numbers of workers were placed on short time across all occupational categories and skills levels.
SEIFSA has organised a high profile two day conference titled kicking off with a new game plan to assist employers to turn the corner in an improving economic climate.
The minister will address the conference on interventions by government to overcome the structural imbalances in South Africa’s current growth path. He will also speak on programmes of the Department of Higher Education and Training to confront the country’s skills deficit and unemployment rate.
