NW Premier Thandi Modise to shower sick children with love and Christmas gifts

In a gesture that symbolises love in action during a season of peace, goodwill and sharing, sick children from disadvantaged communities around Mahikeng are to experience the joy of an early Christmas when North West Premier, Mme Thandi Modise distributes gifts to those admitted in the paediatric ward at Mahikeng Provincial Hospital on Tuesday.

Premier Modise who adopted Ward 5 for children at the hospital after rendering 67 minutes of community service during Mandela Week earlier this year says that Christmas is a time to expand our giving encompassing the lonely and needy and should be celebrated by giving the light of love to those who need it most.

During her visit to the children’s ward, the premier was touched by conditions in the ward and the plight of children. She together with members of her Executive Council assisted in cooking meals for patients, cleaning wards, washing babies, ironing clothes and cleaning the yard marking the culmination of a highly successful Mandela Week campaign in the province.

On adopting the ward, Modise indicated that she would be visiting the ward frequently and throughout the year and that she would do everything possible in her personal capacity to ensure that the ward is in good condition, provides the best possible care for children, is properly maintained and the children stay in a clean and healthy ward.

MEC for Health Dr Magome Masike, Acting Director General Abe Tlaletsi, newly appointed Head of Department for the Department of Health Major General Dr. Mokgethi Radebe and other senior government officials are among those who are expected to accompany the premier to the event scheduled to commence at 10:00 am.
