NW to deliberate on police killings

The North West Department of Human Settlements, Public Safety and Liaison is to host a one day anti-police killings summit scheduled to take place on Friday, 16 March 2012 at the Klerksdorp Recreational Hall in the Matlosana Local Municipality.

This summit will create an environment for discussions aimed at proposing solutions towards ending the killings of police officers in the province.

Issues dealing with victims of police attacks and killings, the role of Criminal Justice System would be discussed during the summit.

The following are amongst; related areas to which participating stakeholders will be expected to contribute as informed by anticipated challenges/concerns.

Inputs by survivors of police attacks/killings (i.e. police officer and family members respectively)

Dealing with victims/survivors of police attacks/killings (Dept. Social Development, Women, Children and People with Disabilities, Faith Based Organisations and others)

The role of the media in raising awareness against police killings.

Inputs by the criminal justice system departments.
