Nursing training programme bears fruits

The auxiliary nurse training initiative by the Department of Health and Social Development as part of the integrated poverty alleviation programme is bearing fruits as 195 enrolled nursing auxiliaries and 423 enrolled nurses will be receiving their qualifications tomorrow, 17 February 2011.

The Limpopo MEC for Health and Social Development, Mme Dikeledi Magadzi will deliver a keynote address and hand over certificates to candidates who satisfied the South African Nursing Council requirements.

“We are particularly pleased that an average of 84 percent of all candidates who set for examinations for the 2010 academic year passed and we urge them to further their studies to ensure that the shortage of skilled personnel in the public health sector become a thing of the past,” Magadzi said.

To date the Department of Health and Social Development has trained 2175 enrolled nursing auxiliaries at the hospital based nursing schools in the Limpopo province.
