In an effort to strengthen collaborative partnership with communities to reduce road carnage, the North West Department of Public Safety will be launching the Bojanala Platinum District Community Road Safety Council tomorrow, Thursday, 30 September 2010. The launch is to be held at the Bojanala Road Safety district office, 1697 Waterval Street, Old Industrial Site, Rustenburg.
In announcing the local and district launches, North West MEC for Public Safety, Howard Yawa outlined that the role of the Community Road Safety Councils are to:
- act as the implementation structure of road safety programmes at local, district level and provincial level
- facilitate involvement of communities in the development of road safety projects
- serve as advisory bodies of government on road safety issues that affect communities
- assist law enforcement in ensuring compliance with the rules of the road.
The launch for Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Community Safety Council is to be held on Tuesday, 5 October 2010 at the Klerksdorp City Hall while that of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district launch will be held on Wednesday, 6 October 2010 at Swaarfontein Hall in Vryburg.
The launch of Ngaka Modiri Molema district is to be held on Friday, 8 October 2010 at Mmabatho Stadium VIP Lounge.
Sector departments of Transport, Education including schools, Health and Social Development, representatives of district and local municipalities, traditional authorities, business forums, public transport operators, organised labour, agricultural forums, driving schools, freight industry, non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, youth, women’s groups, churches and faith based organisations are among the expected delegates to attend the launches.
The provincial Community Road Safety Council is scheduled to be launched on 5 November 2010.
