The pronounced strategy to create a more sustainable employment opportunity for hundreds of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) beneficiaries in the Bokone Bophirima province will today come to fruition as the Office of the Premier will enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Education and Training Authority (merSETA), which will see 100 young people from the Province benefit from a skills and development programme. The signing of the MoA will take place at Ventersdorp Local Municipality on Monday 16 March 2015, at 13h00.
The skills and development programme will be funded by the merSETA to the tune of R26 million over a period of three years, and will during this period give preference to young people in the less developed Districts of Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and Ngaka Modiri Molema.
“The signing of this agreement is a breakthrough towards providing a lifetime career opportunity for young people to become professional artisans and graduates in areas relating to the merSETA sector, with specific reference to the Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics,” said Prof Job Mokgoro, the Acting Director-General for the Provincial Government who is also coordinating implementation of skills and development activities for the profiled EPWP beneficiaries.
Prof Mokgoro says more SETA sectors are currently being engaged to provide career development opportunities for young and unemployed people of our Province, and emphasised that the signing of this MoA is the beginning of more good things to come.
“We continue to encourage the beneficiaries of the EPWP to work together with the Provincial Government in ensuring that they get profiled, this to enable us to identify the training or Learnership programmes that are relevant to the interest on the ground,” Prof Mokgoro reiterated.
