The North West Department of Public Safety will be hosting a Provincial Workshop on to focus on reduction of road accidents tomorrow (Wednesday, 7 April 2010) at Orion Safari Lodge in Rustenburg. The workshop is scheduled to commence at 10.00 am.
The objective of the workshop is to review the National Road Safety and pave a way towards the establishment of Local Road Safety councils at municipal level in order to reduce the carnage on public roads. Registration for invited delegates that include traditional leaders, faith based organisations, community policing forums, provincial public safety road traffic management, municipalities, non-government organisations, road safety forums and road traffic officers starts at 7.30 am.
The review process led by the national Department of Transport in partnership with the Road Traffic Management Corporation, the Road Accident Fund and the South African National Road Agency is to culminate into the national plan of action to be launched soon by the Minister of Transport S’bu Ndebele.
The plan of action is intended to reduce road accidents by 50% in the next four years in line with the Millennium Goal.
