The North West Department of Public Safety embarks on the 2010 Firearm Amnesty campaign outreach roadshow at Makapanstad Taxi rank, Mothibistad, Carousel View and Mogegelo in the jurisdiction of Moretele local municipality on Tuesday 9 March 2010.
The campaign outreach roadshow by the provincial department in partnership with the South African Police Service (SAPS), Business Against Crime North West and the provincial Chapter of Gun Free South Africa seeks to amplify the call to residents to surrender illegal firearms and ammunition to police stations without being arrested or compensated before the 11 April deadline.
The nation-wide campaign under the slogan “Awulethe Umshini Wakho-Surrender your Firearm”, launched last Friday in the province by MEC Howard Yawa is intended to eliminate the circulation of illegal firearms and ammunition which contribute to serious and violent crime as well as firearm-related crimes.
The campaign outreach roadshow for Madibeng is scheduled for next week Thursday.
