North West Provincial Legislature to tackle report on serious health and policy issues at Potchefstroom College of Agriculture

The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Conservation, Environment and Rural Development will be holding a meeting with the Department of Agriculture; Potchefstroom College Management; National Education and Health Workers Union (NEHAWU); and South African Students Congress (SASCO) on Monday, 7 February 2011 at the Potchefstroom College of Agriculture Building at 09h00.

The purpose of the meeting is to resolve all the matters raised by NEHAWU and SASCO relating to the college as well as the transformation report of the College.

There have been several complaints raised by the NEHAWU Potchefstroom branch and SASCO relating to the management of Potchefstroom College of Agriculture. This has created an intense situation within the college for both employees and students. More than one meeting was convened by the Portfolio Committee in trying to resolve all the matters raised by the parties concerned.

On 6 December 2010, the Portfolio Committee requested the Department of Agriculture to submit a comprehensive report responding to all issues raised by NEHAWU and SASCO. Thursday, 3 February 2011, the Department of Agriculture delivered the report to the Committee and therefore the Portfolio Committee will deliberate on the responses and make recommendations.
