The North West Provincial Legislature will be holding its annual youth parliament on Friday, 22 June 2012, in the Legislature Chamber at 09h00.
There will also be build up sessions that will take place on Monday, 18 June 2012 at Brits Town Hall and at Vryburg Town Hall. On Wednesday, 20 June 2012, the sessions will be held at Klerksdorp Auditorium and at Lichtenburg Town Hall. All sessions will commence at 09h00.
The event, themed “Education and learning to address youth unemployment, poverty and inequality”, will bring to light the challenges still faced by the youth in the province and the country as a whole.
June is celebrated as Youth Month in South Africa, paying tribute to the youth and ordinary citizens who lost their lives during the 16 June 1976 uprising in Soweto. It marks the 36th anniversary of that fateful day.
The Youth Parliament Build up Sessions intends to provide a platform for engagement between Members of the North West Provincial Legislature and the youth of this province. The following thematic areas will be discussed; Education and Learning; Economic Development beyond 2012 ; and Eradicating youth unemployment.
Young people in business from Tlokwe Local Municipality will also be provided with an opportunity to discuss the business sector with the Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Hon. Supra Mahumapelo at Gamatlabe Hall in Ikageng on Tuesday 19 June 2012 at 17h00.
All inputs made by the youth will be combined to make one document that will be converted into a Youth Development Plan for the North West province.
