North West Provincial Legislature to conduct public hearings on the North West Appropriation Bill, 2012

The North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Provincial Affairs and Finance will be holding Public Hearings on the North West Appropriation Bill 2012, at Jericho Tribal Hall in Jericho and at Kgakala Hall in Leeudoringstad on Thursday, March 8, 2012. On Friday, March 9, 2012 the public hearings will be held at Town Hall in Lichtenburg and at Jim Payne Hall in Amalia, all Public Hearings commence at 10h00.

The North West Appropriation Bill 2012 for the financial year 2012/2013 aims to provide for the appropriation of an amount of monies from the Provincial Revenue, for the requirements of the province and to provide for conditional grants contained in the Bill. It is a Constitutional requirement for the province to withdraw money from a Provincial Revenue Fund only in terms of an appropriation by a Provincial Act. Such a Bill authorises the government to set aside money for specific spending.

Committee Chairperson, Hon. Supra Mahumapelo said it is important that people should attend these public hearings as their inputs will be considered when allocating budget.

“The beauty of our democracy is that it allows people to influence decisions of government. This is the people’s budget and therefore they should be informed and have an input on how funds are allocated,” said Hon. Mahumapelo.

The Portfolio Committee will be led by the Chairperson of the Committee, Hon. Mahumapelo and accompanied by Hons. Galeng, Baloyi, Kekesi, Kasienyane, Mothupi, Pelele, Motladiile, Molotsi, Num, Kheswa, Hattingh, Franszen, Motswenyane, Moarane, Motshegare and Dodovu.Members of the interested to attend should contact Namhla Luhabe at 079 527 0628.
